Champions in progress
I am so excited to report that the challenge is going well! Chance is working with a senior at Cooper High School who has never played baseball before. Coach Chance is having a great time, and is now talking about being an MLB coach (after he plays of course). ;) Bailey still is up in the air for this month, but knows exactly what she is doing for February...hmmm...so many ideas! Time is ticking so she needs to think of something soon. Lance is in the same boat. He opens Monster (our indoor sports facility) February 4th and is going to get KIKS started again (Kids Involving Kids in Sports). He will collect gently loved sports gear and donate to parks and rec for their rec teams, but that is not for January. He better get on it! Now on to me, I have cleaned out our video collection of all the movies our kids have outgrown. Thanks to pinterest, I am trying to declutter. We'll see how long that lasts. I tend to like things. lol I will be donating the videos to a local daycare along with microwave popcorn for a movie party that they can enjoy! Pictures will be coming soon. This Challenge has really begun to affect our lives. We are on our second week of eating at home for dinner. Bailey keeps wondering when we are going to have take-out on the menu! Needless to say, we had a few withdrawals at the beginning. We also have had dinner once a week with my mother-in-law, Trish, for the last two weeks. What a blessing! We are not only getting to spend time with her that usually does not happen, but we are also all eating together as a family....3 generations at one table. Thank you, Lord, for that hour or two to share in each others' lives. Keep an eye out for our January updates and remember to strive each day to have a Champion's heart!

The Challenge
The Thorntons (myself, Lance, Bailey and Chance) would like to challenge you! We are wagering a friendly competition amongst ourselves and would love for you to adapt the competition to your famiy. We have divided our family into teams. Lance and I are each individual teams and the kids have partnered up to be a team as well. We are each performing a random act of kindness a month and are competing to see who has the most creative idea. I found the idea on pinterest and my NHS members (I am a school teacher) performed random acts around the schools/community the week before Christmas. They LOVED it! Then, a week or so ago, my sister-in-law began to tell me about a blog she read that had 24 acts written on a piece of paper, and every day in December read the sheet and performed the act every day until Christmas. Erin (my s-i-l), then decided to do the same thing with her two boys every week this year! That is 52 acts of kindness! I decided to jump on this concept, but adapt the concept for my family. We decided to compete...can you tell we are a sports family? :) We will be performing 36 acts of kindness this year, instead of the normal holiday-related charitable endeavors. I always tease and say that I want Christmas to last all year long and now it can! Our family is calling this the Thornton "Heart of a Champion" Challenge (more to follow on the choice for the title later) I posted this idea on facebook yesterday and received an amazing response so I decided to make this blog and share our ideas this year here as well. We challenge YOU to live life each day like a CHAMPION!
